The drastic rise in prices for electricity and gas is not only threatening the existence of large industrial energy consumers. In the meantime, the high energy costs have also become an existential threat for medium-sized companies and craft businesses. Master bakers who can no longer pay their electricity or gas bills are proof of this. The federal government wants to help companies with several instruments.
Among other things, it launched the Energy Cost Reduction Program (EKDP) and is providing up to five billion euros for it. But the EKDP has received bad reviews so far. It can only cushion the cost increase to a small extent, its effect is being completely consumed by state-induced burdens such as the gas surcharge, criticizes the economy. In addition, the program is as unwieldy in its handling as its name.
The application requires an extremely large number of declarations, confirmations and evidence. In many cases, the effort is disproportionate to the possible help.
