Hyundai and Rolls-Royce step into air transportation together
Hyundai Motor Group and Rolls-Royce Holdings announced that they have signed an agreement to work together to integrate the all-electric propulsion system into the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) market.
The parties plan to develop zero-emission vehicles for urban and regional air travel. In this context, Rolls-Royce’s aviation expertise is planned to be combined with Hyundai’s electric vehicle and hydrogen fuel cell technology.
Hyundai has recently made significant investments in battery and hydrogen technology. The company has recently started to make important breakthroughs in the aviation industry. Now, the Korean manufacturer, together with Rolls-Royce, wants to take part in the aviation industry with an environmentalist approach.
Rolls-Royce, on the other hand, has already strengthened its position in this sector with its electric aircraft reaching a speed of 622 km / h, and the famous British manufacturer, which has the title of “The fastest electric vehicle in the world”, and now aims to show its capabilities in the field of sustainability.
The companies say that using hydrogen as a fuel source offers all the benefits of an electric motor, but also a long range. The companies will also work together to bring hydrogen fuel cells, storage systems and infrastructure to the aviation market.
The first work of this partnership may be the eVTOL aircraft signed by Supernal. Representatives of both companies posed in front of eVTOL after the deal. With this partnership, the scope of eVTOL can be expanded.
Supernal, a subsidiary of Hyundai, plans to start transporting customers in urban areas by 2028. Hyundai wants to switch to longer-haul flights in the 2030s. The partnership with Rolls-Royce and hydrogen fuel cells will help the Korean manufacturer in this regard.
