These are the promotion and relegation candidates

Dusseldorf Deutsche Börse regularly reviews the composition of the Dax indices. On Friday evening after 10 p.m. it will again be clear which companies can keep the affiliation and which will switch between SDax, MDax and Dax or be eliminated completely. There are already reliable forecasts.

The Düsseldorf-based armaments group Rheinmetall, for example, recorded a higher volume of orders due to the war. This paves the way to the Dax 40. “Hamburg-based consumer goods manufacturer Beiersdorf is also very likely to return to the Dax, since well-known brands are more in demand in uncertain times,” explains financial editor Susanne Schier in the Handelsblatt Today podcast.

Rotations hardly move prices

Beiersdorf remains true to its role as a shaky candidate: the company was only dropped from the Dax in March 2021, then rose again in October before it had to give way again in March 2022. The food supplier Delivery Hero will probably have to make room for up-and-coming companies.

From the point of view of the shareholders, promotion to the first stock exchange league should be viewed positively in the long term, says the Handelsblatt expert. Dax companies received more attention from analysts and international investors. However, since the climbers usually make up a relatively small proportion of the overall index, the rotations are not overly relevant for price development, according to Susanne Schier.

Consumers can already make their contribution to the energy transition

Also a topic in Handelsblatt Today: As early as 2026, the global average temperature could be 1.5 degrees above the pre-industrial level. The World Weather Organization (WMO) assumes this. A rise in temperature at this altitude has serious consequences for people and nature. Climate researchers and activists therefore often declare the 1.5-degree mark to be the upper limit of the general rise in temperature.

In order not to exceed this limit, Germany must create a sensible energy transition. In the weekend focus that appears on Friday, the Handelsblatt gives answers to 30 questions about the energy transition. In the podcast, Handelsblatt editor Catiana Krapp explains how consumers can already make their own contribution.
