7 things the government absolutely needs to tackle

Where is Germany headed?

Some reforms are necessary after the general election.

Germany became sluggish in reform during the Merkel years. The next federal government will therefore have to initiate a large number of changes.

With regard to climate change, for example, something has changed in the last few months, at least insofar as Germany no longer wants to become climate neutral in 2050, but in 2045. There is still no plan with concrete measures to achieve this goal.

In the election campaign one hardly looked beyond the Federal Republic, but whoever will rule next in Berlin will not be able to afford that. A rethink must take place in foreign policy. It is important not to perish between the conflicts of the great powers.

But there is also a need for reform in social policy, industrial policy, financial policy and the areas of innovation and bureaucracy. The Handelsblatt editorial team has put together specific suggestions from these seven policy areas. So what can, what must the coming federal government do to wake Germany out of its rigidity?
