Experts say: The shortage of skilled workers has reached a level of pressure that is putting companies under pressure when it comes to employee retention.

Berlin The shortage of skilled workers is so serious that it has become an economically limiting factor. That says Christoph Niewerth, CEO of the personnel service provider Hays. Companies are having “increasing difficulties recruiting new employees”. The figures prove him right, as the example of a single industry makes clear: According to the Bitkom industry association, 137,000 positions remained vacant in the IT sector alone.

Niewerth’s thesis: The difficulties encountered when hiring new staff could lead to companies shifting their focus away from the question of how to attract new employees to another: How can employees who are already in the company be retained?

At Hays, it was decided that employee retention was one of the most pressing topics in the human resources world – and selected it as the core topic for the HR report that the personnel service provider publishes annually together with the Institute for Employment and Employability (IBE).
