300 billion euros for independence from Russian energy

Brussels The EU Commission wants to make further major efforts to become independent of Russian energy. “Today we are taking our ambition one step further,” said Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. “To ensure that we are no longer dependent on fossil fuels from Russia, and as soon as possible.”

300 billion euros are to be spent on this by 2030. A small part of this is to be used for new infrastructure for oil and gas so that these energy sources can reach the EU via other routes.

However, the essential part should be available for the expansion of renewable energies. A large part of the money should come from the Corona reconstruction fund, which already provides for investments in climate protection. Only 75 billion euros is additional money.
